What file types can I upload? 

You can upload files in the following formats: 

  • FBX 
  • glTF (.gltf and .glb) 
  • OBJ 
  • PLY 
  • STL 
  • CTM 


Formats that reference external files (such as OBJ) must be uploaded as a .ZIP file. In order to load the external files correctly, care should be taken to ensure that the paths to external files are relative. From the Studio plan on you can also upload and process models in CAD formats like STEP, JT and IGES.

What is the upload file size limit? 

For the free plan there is a limit of 500mb for file upload. From the first paid plan on you can upload files of all sizes. 

What are the output file types? 

As a result of optimizing a model you will receive a glb file. Additionally, you can choose one out of the following formats to be outputted as well: 

  • glTF (.gltf and .glb) 
  • OBJ 
  • PLY 
  • USDZ 
  • STL 
  • CTM

Can I preserve the shape of my model? 

Yes, you are flexible to choose how much the geometry is impacted by the optimization. Even when choosing a high level of polygon reduction, our algorithms will intelligently simplify the polygon mesh, so the shape of your model is kept in the best possible way. If you specify a target that is too low for your model there won’t be enough polygons to represent the original and the result may look deformed. 

Can I preserve UV maps? 

Yes, you can choose to preserve the UV maps. Just choose the option in the optimization menu. 

Can I preserve Materials and Tiled Textures? 

Yes, that is possible. Simlply choose the field “Preserve Materials & Tiling” in the second step of the optimization (Asset Simplification), as it was done in the picture below.

What is a RapidPoint? 

RapidPoints are needed to run an optimization on the RapidCompact platform. One RapidPoint allows for one export of an optimized 3D model.  

For more information on exports, see below “What is an export?”. 

What is an export? 

We call the output of the optimization process an export. You can optimize your 3D models once and export it in multiple formats. With each optimization you receive the result with a complimentary glb-version and one file type of your choice.  If you like to do more exports, for example for exporting to another format, you can use RapidPoints for the conversion to those additional formats.  

Can I only reduce polygons? 

Yes, you can also only reduce the polygon count. In this case RapidCompact only touches the geometry of your asset. 

Can I use RapidCompact with a REST API? 

Yes, the use of our REST API is possible starting from the Professional package on. Check out how it works here. 

Can I use RapidCompact as CLI? 

Yes, we have on-premise options for enterprise clients. If you are interested in learning more, contact our team here. 

Can I purchase additional points if I exceed my monthly plan? 

Yes, it is possible to purchase additional points at the rate your plan is at. For example, if you are in the Professional plan and you need more than the 100 RapidPoints in one month, you can purchase the additional points at a rate of 0,59€ per RapidPoint.

How does the billing work? 

Your plan is monthly recurring (you can cancel it anytime for the next month). The date you signup is fixed and will remain tied to your account even if you upgrade the subscription. Your monthly points will reset always on the day of the month of your original signup date. If you upgrade during the month, there will therefore be only a partial billing for the next tier. E.g.: 

 You sign up on the 1st of January with a Pro subscription. On the 15th you decide that you would be better served with a Studio plan and upgrade. You will then be billed with the cost of roughly half the month at the Studio price point, minus the same amount of time at the Pro price point. Your monthly points are then at the Studio level, but any points you already used in that month (when you were still at Pro level) are still considered used. So, if you used 90 out of your 100 points at Pro level and then switched to Studio you now have another 410 (500 – 90) points left for the month. If you continue your subscription, they will reset on the 1st of February 

 Any additional points you purchase are independent of your non-free account status and will remain available unchanged as they are. 

Can I change or quit my plan monthly? 

Yes, all accounts are on a monthly basis. Please see the point “How does billing work?” above for more info. 

How do I cancel my subscription? 

You can simply cancel your subscription by clicking “cancel plan” (see image below). You find this setting under “Profile & Settings”.

Where do I report bugs/issues? 

You can report bugs and issues of all kind in our ticketing system. Click on “Get Support” (see image below) in the top right of the menu to find the ticketing system.

What animations are supported through the formats? 

Rigid animations will be supported soon! Stay tuned for updated regarding the support of rigid animations for glTF and USDZ.
